This album was written primarily in my later high school and early college years. At that time, the majority of my creativity was poured into the nu-metal band of which I played part. However, when time was available, I wrote a great many ballads which more accurately conveyed my feelings and experiences as a teenager and young adult.
For ten years people have requested that I record these songs into a single collection. "Occasus," a latin word meaning the setting of the sun, is that much requested batch of songs. I chose the sunset theme because by making this record I was able to emotionally let the sun go down on this chapter of my life both musically and emotionally, as well as give birth to a new dawn where my musical and creative ambitions will take me.
The songs were originally composed as solo ballads on either concert piano or acoustic guitar. With the help of world renowned singer-songwriter and producer Joshua James, these songs took on a whole new life. We incorporated many synth sounds and effects heavily used in the 80s and early 90s for pop rock ballads, while adding aggressive and catchy drum patterns, bass grooves, and guitar licks which keep the album moving.
The creation of this record was a true adventure that I look forward to taking again with another set of songs in the near future.
A big thank you needs to be given to Joshua James, Jordan Clark, Aaron Anderson, Isaac Russell, Evan Coulombe, and Rich Morales. I couldn't have done it without you guys.
Another thank you is owed to my family. My wife, for the inspiration to be who I am, to do what I love, and the patience she has with me as I pursue my passions; my mother and father, for their examples and time spent coaching me as a child to make the most of my talents; my various musician friends including the members of Descent, and those who have influenced me as instructors and mentors. Thank you all for your kinship, guidance, love, and support.
Lastly, thank you, listener, for taking the time to read and give ear to the album. I appreciate your support more than you know.
